Mainline has established itself as a major player within the Windfarm EBoP (Electrical Balance of Plant) sector, delivering full EBoP design and build solutions ranging from large scale 73 turbine windfarms in Sweden to smaller scale 6 turbine windfarms in Ireland, together with all associated civil and fibre works. We also routinely undertake elements of CBoP (Civil Balance of Plant) works as part of our client-focused turnkey solutions approach.

Together with our in-house design team, we offer full EBoP design and build solutions, bringing together over 20 years sectoral knowledge and practical experience, from grid and collector cable installation, to jointing and testing, to substation design and build, to turbine fitout and commissioning. We are your one-stop windfarm solution partner.

Sample Projects

We successfully delivering the 73 Wind Turbine Electrical Balance of Plant (EBoP) for Hästkullen Wind Farm, in the Nysäter wind park, close to Sundsvall. The scope of the project included:

  • Engineering and construction (design, optimisation and build) of the 36kV collector cable to 73 wind turbines.
  • Over 95 km of associated civil works, trenching and backfill, through a variety of terrains from wetlands to rock, including a number of directional drills.
  • Over 95 km of associated earthing conductor works.
  • Over 155km of fibre telecommunication works.
  • Installation, cable jointing, testing, commissioning and energisation of almost 455 linear km of 36kV cable.
  • Various additional civil works, including the construction of an access road.

Mainline completed the EBoP (Electrical Balance of Plant) & CBoP (Civil) works in 2019, the scope of the project included:

  • EBoP Substation Design and Build / Fit Out (IPP and ESBN stations)
  • Wind Farm and Grid Connection MV/HV Cables (Installation/Jointing/Testing)
  • Wind Farm and Grid Connection Fiber (Installation/Jointing/Testing)
  • Completion of the CBoP Works upon Termination of CBoP Main Contract (due to Examinership of the CBoP Contractor). CBoP Works included significant Substation, Wind Farm, Delivery Route and 38kV Grid Connection works.
  • Managing, liaising, co-ordination commissioning of the Sub-station with the ESB Networks (ESBN).
  • PSCS for all of the above.

Mainline completed the EBoP (Electrical Balance of Plant) works in 2019 (as part of a Joint-Venture), the scope of the 13 Wind Turbine project included:

  • EBoP Substation Design and Build / Fit Out (IPP and ESBN stations)
  • Wind Farm MV/HV Collector Cables (Installation/Jointing/Testing)
  • Grid Connection MV/HV Cables (Installation/Jointing/Testing)
  • Wind Farm Fiber (Installation/Jointing/Testing)
  • Commissioning of the Turbines.

Client: Nordex Energy Ireland Ltd.

Site: Magheramore Wind Farm, Carrowbeg, Claremorris, Co. Mayo.

Switchgear Type:  ABB Safeplus CV

Work Completed: 18 x turbines tested and commissioned

Mainline completed the Grid Connection works in 2018, the scope included:

  • The Design, Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of the 20kV Grid connection including cabling, jointing, trenching, ducting and chambers.
  • All associated ROL & Traffic Management requirements.
  • The Gird Route was 20km in length (dual circuit – each 10km in length) and comprised of 8 double Joint Bays in total, with 4 (set of 6) Straight Through Joints & 4 Sheath (set of 6) Break Joints, terminations at 2 (set of 3) at the Wind Farm Substations and ESBN (Corderry Substation).

Site: Slievecallan Wind Farm (East and West), Glennageer, Co. Clare.

Work Completed: 29 x Turbines Energised following testing and commissioning. Managed HV Safety rules on site for the client to allow for the VLF testing of circuits, access into the Basement of the Turbine for Ongoing maintenance.

Mainline completed the EBoP works in 2016 (as part of a Joint-Venture), the scope of the 38 Wind Turbine project included:

  • Wind Farm MV/HV Collector Cables (Installation/Jointing/Testing)
  • Wind Farm Fiber (Installation/Jointing/Testing)
  • Grid Connection MV/HV Cables (Installation/Jointing/Testing)
  • Grid Connection Fiber (Installation/Jointing/Testing)
  • Fit-out and Commissioning of the Turbines.

Site: Tullahannell Wind Farm, Tullahennell South, Co. Kerry.

Work Completed: 13 x Turbines Energised following testing and commissioning. Managed HV Safety rules on site for the client to allow for the VLF testing of circuits, access into the Basement of the Turbine for Ongoing maintenance.
